Introduction of Desflurane

Desflurane (English: Desflurane), also known as desflurane, is one of the halogenated ether anesthetics, commonly used to maintain anesthesia. When administered at a dose greater than 10% by volume, desflurane may cause tachycardia and irritate the respiratory tract, so desflurane is rarely used to induce anesthesia.

Function

Desflurane is very volatile but remains a liquid at room temperature. Anesthesia machines compatible with desflurane are generally equipped with a special heater to ensure that the desflurane is in a constant temperature state and to avoid the impact of changes in ambient temperature on the output concentration. Desflurane and enflurane (and to some extent isoflurane) are known to react with carbon dioxide absorbents in anesthesia machines to decompose, releasing small but detectable amounts of carbon monoxide. Carbon dioxide absorbers are more prone to dehydration in high-risk volumes, etc., which will intensify the decomposition of desflurane and the production of carbon monoxide, especially for the carbon dioxide absorber Baralyme
